Ultimo Community Garden

If you are interested in finding out about the garden please email info@ultimocommunitygarden.org.au

We are gardening every Sunday morning, weather permitting, from 10am - 12pm. Please come along and join in the fun.

The garden is in McKee St. Park, Ultimo - Click for map.

The garden is 100% communal - there are no private allotments. Our membership fees are $20 to join, with an annual renewal fee of $10. Members who are also parents can bring kids under the age of 16 along for free.

Members of the public are welcome to walk around and look at the garden, but we respectfully request that you do not touch. If you are a local, we would love to have you join us as a member of the garden.

August 2018: We are still meeting every Sunday at 10am in the garden. We spend time in the garden rather than updating this site ;). Please come and join us.

April 2016: We now have chalkboard in the garden - still meeting every Sunday at 10am in the garden.

September 2013: We were happy to welcome a class of post graduate communications students from UTS to the garden.

September 2013: The social insect researchers from Sydney Uni have installed some native bee nests in the garden.

2013: We have a resident family of magpies who help keep the bugs under control. In return, on hot days they like popping in for a shower while the garden is being watered.

10th December, 2011 - Corners & Sign

Our corners are finally done - thanks James! and we have 2 spiffy new signs.

14th September, 2011 - TAFE student visit

30 students from TAFE and 3 of their enthusiastic teachers visited to talk about the garden, including how the garden works, how it benefits the community and the type of crops grown. They seemed to enjoy themselves and their interest was extremely encouraging. Here's a photo of some of the students wandering about the garden.

Photos from Ultimo Community Garden - Bed Tidying Day - 24th July 2011

Tidying the beds involved levelling the star pickets, replacing/tightening the wire braces, replacing the black cable ties with clear plastic & removing all the stickers from the Kliplock. We also planted quite a lot of seeds.

Huge thanks to all who helped, it was a lovely day with another excellent result!

We had lots of people dropping by to say hello while we were there - great to have so much positive support from the neighbours!

Even with the record rainfall, the drainage system in the beds appears to be working ok. It certainly made levelling the star pickets a fairly easy task.

Lunch time & everyone hoovers up the efforts of the catering crew - thanks Anne & Kait!

All done by 5pm - Cathie hosing down the sides of the new garden bed.

The beans have all germinated in the last 2 weeks, marigolds & zucchini also doing well.
